Apart
from fishing trips we can also help organise birdwatching tours with our very own
expert ornithologist John who has extensive knowledge about the birds of The
Gambia.
Here is a bit more from John: "I have been a BTO licensed bird ringer
since 1981 and am currently the only bird ringer in The Gambia.

I first visited the
Gambia in 1991 on an organised birdwatching holiday. We visited many
sites going as far up country as Basse. We had an excellent Gambian bird
guide and in total we saw 242 species in late November / early December.
This first visit made me realise what a wealth of bird species could be
found in the country.
I then
started re-visiting the country every 2 years to take part in
bird-ringing expeditions. During one of these in November 2000 I decided
to make plans to abandon life in England and move to The Gambia in order
to carry out a project aimed at discovering ageing characteristics of
the resident African bird species.

My previous ringing
visits have been targeted at European migrants and when cataloguing
resident species we found that there was little information on ageing
them. I am presently living in Brufut and carrying out my research at
Tanji Bird Reserve, Brufut Woods and Kartong.

As this is my own
project I am able to be flexible as of which days I work and therefore
would be available to help identify birds whilst on fishing,
birdwatching or 4 by 4 land safaris. My fee for such trips would be
negotiable depending on your itinerary".
